Dialysis Nurse Training Program (Metro Manila)

Module 1: Lecture 15 days (5 days a week or 3 weeks)

All the relevant theory will be gone over in detail. The Curriculum will be based on the Renap Nursing Module which is very detailed and in depth discussing all the topics needed to become a Renal Nurse. This is the foundation for all nurses who want to be in renal nursing. This will also include simulations with a dummy arm for practice cannulations.

Module 2: Monitoring, Observation, and Priming: 15 days (5 days a week or 3 weeks)

This is the actual and initial exposure in the treatment area of our affiliated dialysis centers. Trainees will be exposed to the different types of ESRD patients. They will be oriented in the Hemodialysis machine parameters, policy and protocol regarding complications and procedures of hemodialysis patients. They will observe how to initiate and terminate Arterio Venous Fistula Access (AVF) and Central Venous Catheter Access. In this module, nurse trainees will have the opportunity to build rapport with the patients because they will be the ones to monitor the vital signs of the patients. Preceptors will be present at all times on the floor.

Module 3: Cannulation and Termination: 30 days (6 days a week or 5 weeks)

This is the actual handling of hemodialysis procedures. Nurse Trainees will have the opportunity to cannulate and terminate AVF access and central venous catheters with the supervision of their preceptors. Each nurse trainee will have a completion form to comply with all the actual initiation and termination of hemodialysis patients. The head nurse/ clinical instructor of the facility will give the format of what data they will need to accomplish before they can submit it. This is the most crucial period of the training.

Module 4: Skills Mastery 1 (1 month)

A required module for mastery of clinical skills. After this month, a Certificate of Training and Completion a will be given for all dialysis nurse trainees. This is an additional exposure in the treatment area. Nurse Trainees will have the chance to thoroughly know and experience the ins and outs of Renal Nursing. They will be exposed in the re use and water treatment area.

Additional Course (optional)
Intensive Clinical Skills Mastery (3 months)

The additional training months are mainly to assist the nurses in completing the 6 -month apprenticeship requirement of RENAP for accreditation. This is also for Dialysis Nurses who feel that they need to thoroughly master their clinical skills & add man-hours of actual practice to beef up their resume. Pre-requisite to this is going through the full Dialysis Nurse Training course. Regular evaluation will be conducted and strict requirements fulfilled.
